À La Carte
A Root Color refreshes your base color and covers regrowth — either gray or natural — without touching the mid-lengths or ends. It's a clean, efficient service that keeps your color looking intentional between dimensional appointments.
Roots aren't a problem to fix — they're an appointment to keep. The clients who book root color on a steady six-to-eight week rhythm look the most consistently put-together, full stop. We match your exact base, blend the regrowth without a hard line, and have you out the door in under two hours.
We mix to your natural depth, not to a number on a tube. That's the difference between a root color that looks like color and a root color that just looks like your hair.
Every root color at Mill & Mane is performed by Lauren Noll and built on bond-protecting chemistry, careful sectioning, and the kind of unhurried pacing that most guests tell us they haven't experienced at a salon in years.
Mill & Mane sits in downtown Tipp City, Ohio, and a typical root color guest is driving in from Troy, Vandalia, Huber Heights, or the north side of Dayton. We keep the chair count intentionally low so the attention stays on the head in front of us, not the schedule behind it.
You'll feel at home in this chair if you're consistent gray coverage, maintaining a deeper base color, and guests on a 4–6 week color cycle.
Why it matters ·Letting roots stretch past ten weeks doesn't just look like ‘grow-out' — it forces us to use a stronger formula to catch up, which is harder on the hair and the wallet. Regular cadence is the cheaper, healthier path.
“Consistency, not transformation, is what makes color look expensive over time.”
What a root color looks like, start to finish.
Every appointment moves through the same considered sequence — never rushed, never templated. Here's how the time in the chair is actually spent.
Color match
We mix to your base so the result blends seamlessly.
Apply and process
Application focused on regrowth only.
Cleanse and finish
Polished blowout to send you out the door.
Every root color at Mill & Mane includes root application and cleanse, condition, and blowout — all of it built into the price you see, not stacked as add-ons at checkout.
Keeping your root color between visits.
To protect what we just did, we'll send you home with a quick routine: color-safe shampoo to extend color life. None of it is complicated — most of it is about doing two or three things consistently instead of ten things sometimes.
Questions guests ask before booking a root color.
- Can I add a gloss?
- Yes — book Root & Toner if you'd like the ends refreshed as well. It's the same appointment window, just with the added toner step through the mid-lengths.
- How often should I come in for a root touch-up?
- Every 4–6 weeks for consistent gray coverage. Guests without gray who are just maintaining a deeper base often stretch to 6–8 weeks.
- Will you match my current color exactly?
- Yes. If you're new to us, bring photos of your color at its best and we'll match to that — not to whatever the current regrowth is dictating.
- Does this cover gray?
- Fully — that's the primary use of this service. We adjust formula and processing time based on gray percentage and coarseness.
