Root & Toner

Root color plus a gloss to refresh the whole length.

À La Carte

Root & Toner combines a root application with a custom toner or gloss through the mid-lengths and ends. It refreshes the whole look — covering regrowth and renewing tone in one efficient appointment.

Root & Toner is the pairing we recommend for almost every dimensional color client between full appointments. The root color handles the regrowth; the toner refreshes the mid-lengths and ends so the whole head reads as one cohesive color instead of a top and a bottom.

Done together, the appointment is barely longer than a root alone — but the difference in how the color photographs is significant. It's the smallest upgrade with the largest visible payoff in our maintenance menu.

Every root & toner at Mill & Mane is performed by Lauren Noll and built on bond-protecting chemistry, careful sectioning, and the kind of unhurried pacing that most guests tell us they haven't experienced at a salon in years.

Mill & Mane sits in downtown Tipp City, Ohio, and a typical root & toner guest is driving in from Troy, Vandalia, Huber Heights, or the north side of Dayton. We keep the chair count intentionally low so the attention stays on the head in front of us, not the schedule behind it.

You'll feel at home in this chair if you're guests who want gray coverage plus a tone refresh and reviving faded color between dimensional appointments.

Why it matters ·Pairing tone with root coverage is what keeps mid-length fade from becoming visible regrowth-of-color — the issue that quietly ages every otherwise-perfect color appointment.

A fresh root with a faded mid-length is the most common reason great color stops looking great.

What a root & toner looks like, start to finish.

Every appointment moves through the same considered sequence — never rushed, never templated. Here's how the time in the chair is actually spent.

  1. Match and mix

Base color and toner are custom blended together.

  2. Apply

Root first, then toner through the lengths.

  3. Finish

    Cleanse and a polished blowout.

Every root & toner at Mill & Mane includes root application, custom toner or gloss through ends, bond protection, and cleanse, condition, and blowout — all of it built into the price you see, not stacked as add-ons at checkout.

Keeping your root & toner between visits.

To protect what we just did, we'll send you home with a quick routine: color-safe routine, weekly hydration mask. None of it is complicated — most of it is about doing two or three things consistently instead of ten things sometimes.

Questions guests ask before booking a root & toner.

Is this enough on its own?
If you're not chasing dimension, yes. If you want brightness, add a Mini Foil or plan a Partial Blonding at your next dimensional visit.
How is this different from a standalone gloss?
The root color covers regrowth; the toner refreshes tone through the lengths. A gloss on its own doesn't touch the roots.
Can this replace my highlight appointment?
For a season or two, yes — many guests alternate a Root & Toner with a Partial Blonding to stretch the calendar and lower the yearly investment.

It's the maintenance appointment that does the most for how your color photographs — which, in 2026, matters more than we'd like to admit.
